Cell Mate

Evaluation

In what way does your music promotion package use develop or challenge forms and convention of real music promotion?

Our music video was made so that it would run as a linear narrative. This was because we felt the story line would be too complicated if it was non linear. We used James as the lead singer and we felt that if he was to narrate the music video by cutting backwards and forwards to him lip-syncing. This help for the audience to feel that James was telling the story and helped them understand it, as it was related to music video. We used the location of the park as it was a neutral zone and the location of a warm comfortable home so that it was a contrast to what the video was about.

The clothing we chose was to represent the bands image. We used the theme of Indie as this is what type of band they are. The girl in the video wore very girly clothes to represent her personality. This made it more dramatic as she was seen as a weak again the bloke who seem to be able to control her.
The inspiration of the band was from the Kings of Leon album because of the fact we incorporated the live band footage. We also made it black and white, the same way they had made there’s. By using Monotones we feel that we went with the convention of a Rock/ Indie band as it seems dark and depressing. This also relates to the lyrics.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text

With the Digipak and Poster we used the same image; the reason for this was so that the audience could clearly relate the poster to the album so that it wouldn’t be too difficult to buy the album. We felt this would be the best way for a start up band to continue with there success and it would boost purchasing.

We also used images of the band member because we felt this would help relate all 3 components together so that the poster and video would promote and they would be able to easily locate the album.
On the front and back cover we made it look quite sophisticated as we felt this would be the first impression of the band therefore they would need to be good.
The idea behind the 3 images on the inside cover was see no evil, speak no evil and hear no evil.

the beatles album also influenced our digipak as they had individual photo and used they to build it up.

We added the live band photo so the digipak to add a sense of fun and for the audience to feel they can sing live as well as on a CD.

What Have you Learnt From Your Audience Feedback?

Interview With a Fan

Our first question was: does the Music Video look Professional?

We felt from the results that it was a positive result. This meant that the believed the music video could be presented on music Channels such as MTV etc

We asked: does the editing look good?

The response from this was high as 65% said they liked the editing.

The response from this is that they felt that 55% of the people who saw the video felt that they wouldn’t change a thing. We felt that this wasn’t good enough and felt if we could do it again we would try and raise that percentage above 75%

90% of the people we interviewed said they thought the plot to the story was easy to follow. This hit one of our objectives as we felt we wanted to make the music video easy to watch. If it had confused people then there would be less chance that they would want to watch.

The actors portrayal got 25% of people saying the believed it. This is very low and one of the negative to the music video. As it was so low we decided to go and get some quotation from the audience so that we could understand and improve on our next music video.
Emma Pawlowski ‘I felt that the acting wasn’t good enough to portray the action’
Lucy ‘ better actors would have been needed to improve the scenes’

Was there anything that stood out from your music video?
‘The miming, I felt that it was well matched to the song, it felt like he was the person who was singing the song

The next question we asked was if the location the music video was set in, whether it was related to the genre. 70% of the viewers felt it was related

85% of the fans said that the miming and the band footage went well together.

After this we asked whether they liked the overall look of the Digipak. They said 95% of the people like the overall look of it. This means that our objective of making the digipak attractive to the audience was hit.

Finally, does the digipak and poster compliment one and other. 95% said yes, there for I feel this has worked very well.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research planning and evaluation stages?

Premiere Pro- Premiere Pro is a piece of software which adobe created so that there would be able to create high quality pieces of footage. It is a real time, timeline based software to make it easier to create high quality edited footage. Such broadcaster used it for editing like superman returns and the BBC.
We found premiere pro easy to use and very quickly adjusted to using it. Before use of digital types of media, they would literally have to cut and paste pieces of type together to create a piece of footage. Hence where the phrases cut and paste come from.

it also meant we could adjust footage such as slowing it down cutting it just where we want it etc

Camera- the camera’s we used were special high quality cameras. These where different to the ones used for home use as they had better stabilisation and clearer recording. This is what; we felt, gave us the best quality to our music videos. If we hadn’t used these then editing would have been much more difficult as the resolution would have been low.

Blog – the Blogs have enabled us to be able to do work at home and upload with out using any paper etc. it gives us a much easier way of presenting our work in high quality. Makes it easier for other people to view and makes it more interactive to the audience. it means we can add videos and sound clips so that people can have a better viewing experience.

Jib – the jib was used to get high and low angles. What it did was make it easier to get professional shots of moving from high to low shots.

The final out come of the digipak looked great. once folded we felt it look really professional and attractive to the eye. therefore we feel we hit our target on trying to sell the band new album.

the black and white theme looks great as it leads your eye through the digipak to the CD

The titles of the songs were easily readable due to the black background
