Lily Allen – Smile

The song Smile by Lily Allen has both an indirect and direct address to the video. She’s walking along singing to the camera then it flashes back to an event. The narrative to the song is she’s someone you don’t want to mess with her. For the bulk of it, the video Is linear but in sections its non linear. But the out line of the song has a clear beginning and middle and ending. The video makes sense against the song.

The image given to the star of the video shows that she a strong independent woman who shouldn’t be messed with.

The different types of mise en scene are;
She’s wearing something which makes her blend in with everyone else. But she has a typical lily Allen trademark about how she dresses. Quite “chavy
The different areas which were filmed for the video are; His flat, Street, Café, Club

Several different types of camera techniques are used through the music video such as a close up of Lily Allen’s face as well as zooms, this is mainly because the video is being used as a promotional tool for the artist. There is also a point of view shoot used for when the boy walks in to his flat to see it has been trashed.

The song is very upbeat so therefore the song is seen as the genre POP. Also the lyric rhyme and are catchy not only that but the lyrics are amplified.

Lighthouse Family – I wish

The lighthouse family’s song “I Wish” is a very easy song to listen to. The genre is like a soulful pop type of song. It is very relaxing and easy to listen to.

The Narrative of this song is a non linear song as it has a clear start, middle and an ending. At the beginning of the song its start of feeling like a depressing, down type of song, and the video shows this by the dark grey lighting used within the scene. Everyone’s faces are looking down with a depressed look on there face. The middle has the main character in the song walking along looking through everyone’s thought and problems. You can see this through the flash backs of each person on the train it has an overlay over the image of the person, which is show there problem. Then finally the ending has the train get up and walk off towards the stairs, as there walking up the stairs the top part of the stair is glowing showing that all there problems are solved.

The music video seems to be aimed at 30+ as there isn’t anything in the videos to temp under 30 to want to listen and watch it such as sex appeal or bright flashing lights. They are also a 90’s group with a mellow pace through the song.

Such music shows/radios which may show these types of music video are Smooth and magic as these are the type of places which show slow mellow songs.

The representation of the main character shows him as being a normal person, as he is wear very normal close. The thing which makes them different is that he is wearing a hat. This makes to be the centre of the video making him important but with out making him seem better then everyone else. There is also a girl walking through the train, she isn’t a very pretty girl nor dressed different then everyone else therefore making her blend in to everyone else. But at the end she glows and stand out from everyone else, this maybe show a religious theme put in to the music video as she could be seen as an angel.

Katy Perry - Waking Up in Vegas

Has a indirect address as the idea to the video Is that Vegas is outrageous and out of control. All the colours used in the video are bright and bold to show it being completely different then anywhere else. The storyline to it is that the have no money, they gamble all money they have win lots of money, have everything the ever wanted, gamble it all again and end up with no money, after this the use all the money they own and win it all back again. This is showing how strangle Vegas can be that one minute you can be rich and the next you wont. This means it has a non linear storyline to it.

The video give the audience the impression that us she is wealthy and a risk taker. Not only that but she is over the top in what she wears and that Vegas fit her personality perfectly as Vegas is all of this.

The lyrics to the songs amplify what the video is trying to get at.

The use of cameras In the video are used by firstly show her reaction then tilting, panning or zooming In to what she is looking at. But when she looses everything it reverses, so it will show what she is looking at then her reaction to what is happening.

The genre to this song is POP and is aimed at the aged 12 – 25.
